Evaluation of implementation effectiveness of infrastructure projects is not possible without reference to the territory on which they are built. GIS is a tool used for data modelling and visualization as part of comprehensive IEC projects. Also, Geographic Information Systems and cartographic materials can be considered as independent work results.
IEC creates its own database of georeferenced data. These data contain comprehensive information on the parameters and configuration of existing elements of the transport infrastructure of the Russian Federation. This information embraces the route network and passenger transport performance indicators, information on traffic density on certain sections, information on passenger and freight traffic numbers. Combined with information on resettlement and the socio-economic characteristics of the territory, GIS makes it possible to formulate proposals for optimal tracing of new transport infrastructure facilities, as well as their interaction with existing ones.
